About

My name is Ariane Barnes, loyal patron of the 3D internet. My website is http://arianeb.com

This blog is mostly about my adventures in Second Life.

Secondarily it is about exploring other 3D Virtual Worlds, MMORPGs, and following the development of an immersive 3D internet experience.

Thirdly it is about following internet trends in general, especially as it is changing the way we work and play. Special emphasis on play.

Fourthly it is about whatever the hell I want to write about.

Hi there. Just wanted to said that I have some experience in 3D software (maya, poser and autocad) which I use for my work as an architect. I though I can help by making some backgrounds or scenes. If you are interested, email me.

btw, you have a nice game out there.

    Hello,

    I was wondering.
We are makers of a new virtual world, almost ready for release.

We run on iPhone, iPad, Mac and PC (And after release, in summer, Android as well)

Do you have any space left for a review, or maybe you could just check it out and tell us what you think based on your wide knowledge of so many Virtual worlds?

We can give you free codes to all the worlds, free games for each platform, and whatever else you might require if you are willing to take a look.

    Thank you for your time!

    Nice web site!

Wonderful Site Ariane! I just came across it today and have to complement you on your fine writing, observations and analysis of the Virtual Online space. Maybe I’ll see you in-world sometime ;)

    Hi Ariane

I am a student at Canberra University in Australia.

    I came across your page:

    http://virtualunderworld.net/arianeb/animated.htm

And thought your rationing for breaking CG animated films into the time span of 1995 – 2005 was excellent.

I was curious to see if you’d be keen to let me use this time frame in a Datavisualisation project I’m working on in Uni. I am comparing the no. of 2D versus 3D animated feature films made between 1995 – 2005 (As per your rationale), to see if the number of 3D animated films being made reflect their current vogue and box office domination at the cinemas.

I would cite your webpage as the inspiration for my time frame, as well as providing links to your webpage on my datavis – but will only do so with your permission.

I hope this is an acceptable proposal:)

    Yours sincerely

    Bryan Pike.

Sure you have permission, interesting idea. Disney was doing a 2D film a year until 2000′s “Treasure Planet”, then about the only 2D movies I remember in theaters from 2001-2005 were Miyazaki imports from Japan.

      • May 12, 2010 at 2:30 pm | #11

        Thanks Ariane, much appreciated:)

I agree, Japanese Anime seems to be the most notable source of 2D animation these days.

I’m using Wiki to inform my data; a page on Feature Length Animated Films – including stop motion etc – and there’s heaps of 2D animation still in production, mostly shoddy ‘Disney-ish’ stuff made by companies ever anxious to turn a profit. So it still goes on outside of Japan, but the level of Artistry employed seems doubtful:(

Like I said, I’ll include links to your website and acknowledgement on my Dataviz – with a view to uplaod it to my blog so u can see the results.

        Yours sincerely

        Bryan

    Hi!

Would you be open to sponsorship opportunities that would allow you to earn some money out of your wonderful project? I mean product placement, that sort of thing. If so, drop me a line and I will outline at least one opportunity.

Best wishes and thanks for your wonderful project

With all respects i dont know who you are but:

I am going to write php game framework for games like that which will allow to build whole game directly in admin panel uploading images and defining puzzles without programming skills.

and i am going to test it on your dating game sources i.e images and story line and i will improve some features.

also i m going to do it first on Georgian language but it will have multilangual support.

I dont know if you care about it but if you care you can feel free as email field is filled.

    Dear ArianB,

Can you advise me on how I can get my company video up on the List of Virtual Worlds page?

    Thanks

    • August 8, 2011 at 10:41 pm | #24

Mostly, just tell me it exists, and the comments section is a good place to reach me. I need to update that page soon, at least 3 games currently listed as “In Development” are now in open beta, including apparently 3rdplanet.com (Vie the Game and Res Live are the other two)

  20. August 16, 2011 at 5:04 am | #25

LOL, I am from 3rd Planet, would appreciate if you can take a look at it and let me know your thoughts. I hope you will arrange the company base on Alpha Numeric Sequence.
Appreciate you updating us on your List.
    Have a good day!
